Not Concerned with Betting Lines

•December 13, 2007 • 1 Comment

“Vegas can pick the numbers from anywhere,” Mangold says. “We are focused on watching the film and seeing what they are doing and what we can do.”; When it comes down to it, we don’t have time to worry about (the betting line).”

Remember the Titans

•October 9, 2007 • 3 Comments

Today I was able to take part in the unveiling of the New York Titans throwback uniforms. Its pretty amazing how the origins of the New York Jets kind of got lost. The Titans started in 1960 and switched to the Jets in 1963. At the unveiling there were some reporters there who covered the Titans when they were playing. I was able to talk to some of them, and they had some amazing stories about the history behind the present day Jets. They said that when they first opened training camp tryouts for guys who hadn’t lost the dream of playing, most that came out were in their late 20s. I thought it was amazing to learn how our organization started with guys that played the game simply for the excitement and love of playing. To see the progress made from then to now is awesome. I think that how the sport has grown is a reflection of how great this game is. It is really exciting to be a part of a legacy like that of the Jets.

We have a big challenge ahead of us this week. Philly is going to be a difficult task, but we have a great bunch of guys who want to do the work that is necessary for us to be successful.

HALO 3

•September 25, 2007 • 7 Comments

My blog is a little late and a little short for one main reason this week: Halo 3 has graced us with its presence. I was never big into video games until my college roommate introduced me to Halo. For those who haven’t enjoyed the greatness that follows Halo around like Linus’ blanket, it is a sci-fi first-person-shooter video game. You can play by yourself or join others online to play as a group. Since my introduction to Halo I have wasted many hours of my life to the game. When I first arrived at the Jets, it was a pleasant surprise to learn that many of my teammates enjoy the game as much as I do. During training camp it gets pretty intense with different Halo competitions and rivalries. I think it gives us a simple escape from the rigors of practice and meetings.

Anywho, after receiving the game last night and logging a good amount of hours to my family’s chagrin, I highly recommend going out and purchasing it. The good folks over at Microsoft and Bungie did a great job with number three. You will not be disappointed.

Fall is Coming

•September 18, 2007 • 3 Comments

Here in New York, the weather (for the moment) is changing to the crisp air that accompanies my favorite season. This morning when I woke up it was 60 degrees out, and I can’t tell you how happy I was to see it that low. I am not a warm weather person. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy warm weather with the best of them… but I LOVE the cold. I have always said you can only take off so many clothes, but you can always add them on. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it continues this way and that we don’t end up with one of those “late September heat waves”.

On the football side of life, we have a great challenge in the Dolphins. They have a very strong defense, with playmakers all over the place. I think we all realize the work that that needs to be done, and I’m looking forward to getting in there and turning this thing around.

That’s the short and Long of the Island,

The Season Begins…

•September 10, 2007 • 2 Comments

Hello All!  The NFL season is upon us, which is a great feeling since we hadn’t played a game in 244 days. There has been a great deal of work put in during the off-season, training camp and pre-season. It was great to have that time, because unlike last year I have a much better understanding of the guys in the locker room, the coaches and the system that we use. This season has a great air of excitement surrounding it, and it should be a lot of fun.

Unfortunately we all know how Sunday turned out. As an offensive line, we had technical breakdowns that prohibited us from getting accomplished what we wanted. On the positive side, these problems are correctable. I know we will put in a great deal of work this week to solve the problems and prepare for Sunday’s game against another great defense in Baltimore.

I’m quickly getting back into the daily schedule of the season. Having no set schedule during the off-season really threw me for a loop after doing the same thing for 18 straight weeks. On top that, TBS goes and switches “King of Queens” from 5:00/5:30 to 4:00/4:30. How dare they not contact me first?! :)  Seriously though, I’m a huge fan of the show and Kevin James, so I’ve reworked my schedule to fit it in… I guess a little change never hurt anyone. Anyway, my world is getting right again as we get back to the regular season schedule.

That’s a wrap. I will try my best to answer any questions you all have, but please be patient with me as I get pretty busy during the week.

Keep on keeping on,

Mangolds on The TODAY Show

•September 6, 2007 • 5 Comments

I was able to be a part of The Today show on NBC on Tuesday (September 4). It was a great opportunity as they invited my sister and father to New York to do a segment on her playing football. Other than the early morning wake up, it was a great experience. It was amazing to see these people who do live TV everyday prepare and execute on screen. I was amazed with how Meredith Vieira, who did our interview, only had the commercial break to prepare herself for our interview. Very impressive. After the interview, they allowed us to hang out and watch the show, which was pretty exciting. If you’ve got a few minutes check it out at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20583116/

My First Blog… Pre-Season Recap

•September 5, 2007 • 7 Comments

As part of the information generation, I have realized a great way to reach the fans is through blogging. Unfortunately I am not a creative writing expert, so please bear with me as I get used to writing for fun and not for a research paper. Here goes my first try at this… I hope you enjoy!

I first want to thank those who stop by the site. I am very honored that you take the time from checking out other sites to check out the goings-on of an offensive lineman.

Training camp was difficult as expected, but as weird as it might sound I enjoyed it. Aside from being separated from your family for a month, it’s a great experience. It’s a great platform to build a team through relationships that are formed during the dog days of summer. Everyone goes through the same thing, so from rookie to 10-year vet, everyone has something in common no matter how different we may be.

This being my second year I was more aware of the fan presence at camp, but it still is a little foreign to me. At Ohio State all of our camp was closed to the public, so you can imagine my surprise when I see the stands full of fans. Even though it’s still a little off for me, I feel that it adds an exciting element to the rigors of training camp.

As we all know the season is on its way. I’m looking forward to getting in and getting started on the preparation that is required to succeed and win.

I know this blog is a little long and I apologize. Hopefully I wasn’t too boring, and I appreciate all who read this. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, leave a reply and I’ll try to answer in the best way possible.

Keep on Keeping on,
Mangold
